When researchers wish to study tidal clocks the best way to entrain (synchronise) animals to the tidal regime is by using cues in the natural setting. Here, oysters have been placed in the intertidal where they will experience regular tides and all the environmental changes that brings with it. These oysters are already fitted with monitoring devices so their behaviour can be recorded in situ.
